WWE 2K17
Another chapter in the history of infamous wrestling stimulator is trying to find depth in this ambiguous sport, and sometimes it does. WWE 2K17 is downloadable for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC.
Graphics: 4
Developers have been working quite hard for the game to draw you in with improved graphics and lots of additional details. Body and face movement is gravely perfected compared even to previous year WWE 2K16. The creation suite is expanded, and you’d be satisfied to try out your directing skills with the new video editor. Making a Superstar’s video is now a pleasure of its own, regardless of what’s going on on the ring.
Gameplay: 4
This WWE 2K17 Review will be slightly different from the ones you’ve already read because we have been genuinely enjoying game modes of this edition. Creators of the game decided to make an emphasis on MyCareer mode this time, in which a player creates a wrestler and guides him through the narrow path to superstardom. There’ll be lots of backstage brawling and interviews, and every choice you make is going to have an impact on your career. There is still a Play mode that allows you to create a quick match with your personal settings. In Universe mode, you get to create your own WWE shows with unique arenas and championships. If you’re seriously into creative stuff, there is also a Creation Suite where you can build characters, titles and arenas. However, players who don’t like strategic planning and want to jump into the fights without additional preparations will be disappointed. MyCareer takes a player’s time and effort to develop, and Play mode of the game feels secondary.
The mechanics have been improved since the last time you played WWE: every chop and hook has a weighty feel to it. But it’s not just thoughtless scuffles, and there’s plenty of space for fighting tactics too. The most pleasant bonus of this edition is a brand new roll-out mechanic: you can roll out of the ring to take some rehabilitation time. Another amusing add-on is the voice of Paul Heyman that is dear to every wrestling fan.
Controls: 3.5
No matter what platform you choose to play WWE 2K17, it will take all the buttons to push to control your fights, and there’s a good and a bad side to it. Controls have never been so beautifully maneuvered, which makes all your movements complex and renders flesh to them. At the same time, it takes ages to learn how to fight, and you will need to watch dozens of YouTube fan tutorials (there isn’t an official one) to get everything right, and even then controlling your wrestler will probably fell too sloppy.
Replay Value: 4.5
Replay value is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you want to advocate WWE 2K17, yes, it’s much higher than it was before. Excellent customization options let you begin MyCareer mode with an entirely new fighter every time, and his career will proceed from the choices and decisions you make. Besides, creating your own champion titles and arenas adds a whole new dimension to the wrestling stimulator.
Conclusion
WWE 2K17 is definitely not everyone’s favorite, but with this game developer from Yuke’s and Visual Concepts made a step forward in strategy making and storytelling, which can bring new fans to the game. There’s a certain new depth to the fights with new features and a fine-tuning of the old ones. Creation Suite adds a nice touch to your replays, and improved graphics and mechanics won’t let you get bored.
