Fish Tycoon Game Review

Another old (hey, 2005 is already old!) game of tiny size and confusing name. In spite of it, your mission is not just in making money and expanding your fishing empire. Your real quest is more complicated and more intriguing. If you’ve never played it, it’s time.

What can we say about the game released in 2005 and of only 13 MB in size? It is… tiny. But yet it’s elaborate. No 3D, no action scenes, you just switch between your fish tanks, supply store and your fish store. It’s all dynamic and moving, but not astonishing.

On the other hand, all the info you need is on the screen. The elements are not numerous, so there’s nothing to confuse. Fishes are various and cute. So it works.

Gameplay: 5

As the game unveils at the start, there has been an ecological disaster at the Isola Island, and you need to restore seven magic fish species for the ecosystem to recover. There is an evolution system, so you can just breed these species, but it takes a lot of trials.

Fish need special treatment, so you should buy foods and medicine for them, and fish eggs to enlarge your population. Once you have to buy the second tank, and you already have a special one to keep the fish selected for sale.

Selling fish is your only income, and it should grow (that’s what “tycoon” is for). But getting more money is not your primary aim. As you recover magic species, they appear in a special tab that displays your major success.

Controls: 5

All you have to do you can do with the mouse. Switch between locations. Drag food or medicine into the tank. Move fishes to the sale tank. Sell them in the store. Buy more supplies. There are special buttons for it all. Of course, if you can, you can do it with the touchscreen.

The control system is as easy as can be, and that’s good. `The keyboard is not involved at all unless you need to type your name.

Replay Value: 5

Like all combinatorics games, Fish Tycoon offers a lot of options on how to act. You may try to direct your revolution some different way to see what happens. Maybe your financial politics should be reviewed too after some fails. The game offers a lot of combinations, so you can replay it even after you succeeded, just to see what else it has to show.

You don’t have to concentrate on the evolution process, by the way. Watching fish in the tank is quite a fun by itself, even if it’s all digital.

Conclusion

Don’t let the name fool you. This game is rather about evolution than economics. If you like games like Alchemy, Fish Tycoon might be a good discovery for you. And if you used to play it back in the 2000s, it will give you some sweet nostalgic time.
