Farming Simulator 18 Game Review

The idea of Farming Simulator (if you don’t know it’s just what it says on the tin) turned out to be very fruitful. The 2018 iteration of this game brings more farming vehicles, more new fields and roads, and more operations to perform.

Graphics: 5

3D simulators may be not as picturesque as cartoon racing games, but they are known for their good virtual physics and detailed digitalization of real objects, their controls, and behavior, if there are any. Farming Simulator 18 has plenty of them. All of the objects (fields, roads, animals, environment and, of course, vehicles) are drawn schematically, but close to the real ones.

On Nintendo 3DS FS2018 makes the most out of the two-screen combination. While the top one displays your actions in the real environment, the bottom screen shows maps, financial news, info on the vehicle you’re using right now, and it’s also responsible for switching vehicles. On the lower screen, you also access the settings and all the data you need while playing.

If you have played the previous installment, you may be disappointed with too minor graphical progress. But, in fact, that’s the only bad thing to say about it.

Gameplay: 5

So, you are the farmer, and you do the entire farmer’s job. Use different techs to sow, cherish and harvest your fields. Purchase animals to make your animal farm. This time the developers introduced pigs in addition to cows and sheep. Buy what you need, sell what you produce.

But for many players, the most amusing part of the game is driving different vehicles (similar to their real-life prototypes). FS2018 features more than 50 farming machines by top vendors.

Controls: 4

The control system is default for Nintendo 3DS. You use the pair of controllers to control the movements and the touchscreen to interact with game menus. In fact, it’s the perfect combination for games like this. Try to play it (or another version of it) on a regular mobile device to feel the difference.

Replay Value: 3.5

As you need to master the technique and the techs, the game is as playable as you are quick to learn. It may take you from minutes to months to learn how to control this or that device. But as your progress continues gradually, you make more money to expand your farm, and this unlocks more features, this makes the game less replayable. The further you’ve gone, the less you’d want to restart.

A great simulator to show what farming is all about, and its greater attractor is licensed 3D models of the farming vehicles. Driving them gives a stunning feeling even on a small 3DS’s screen.

In fact, you don’t have to purchase it if you’re not yet fed up with FS17. If you are, you better wait until FS19 (it’s already in production). But if you have missed the 17th installment, you’ll enjoy all the pros on FS18 and leave its cons unnoticed. Farming is fun!
